New Year’s Eve is a Major Event – Expect Delays
The best way to travel to and from New Year's Eve celebrations is by public transport. Due to large crowds, delays should be anticipated.

To plan your journey, visit the PTV website, call 1800 800 007 (open all night on New Year's Eve), or use the PTV Journey Planner widget on this page.

Taxis
On New Year's Eve, people attending the celebrations are strongly encouraged to use the public transport services, which run all night. If you are planning to catch a taxi, please note that it is very difficult for vehicles to get in and out of the city due to road closures.
Taxi ranks are recommended as a safer option as they are staffed by a security officer in a distinct uniform and monitored by security cameras. A Safe City taxi rank will be located on Queen Street between Bourke and Little Collins streets, with another in Bourke Street, between Swanston and Russell streets.
